FAQ

According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, children should have their first dental visit by the time they’re one year old. Even if their first tooth has just appeared, professional guidance on at-home care and preventative treatments ensure a future of bright, healthy smiles.

Of course! Some family dentists accept children of all ages, but Dr. J and his team are certified pediatric specialists. That means your child receives unique care that’s specifically designed for their budding smiles. Our office and amenities provide tailored experiences that aren’t available at general family dental offices.

Parents should schedule routine cleanings and exams at least twice a year, typically every 6 months. Baby teeth are more permeable than adult teeth. Regular preventative care strengthens their teeth against tooth decay and sets a healthy foundation for a child’s future.

Fluoride treatments are quick, safe methods to fight off cavities. They’re proven to be effective to reinforce baby and adult teeth so they stay natural and shining while your child grows. We strongly recommend children receive fluoride treatments for the extra protection.

Schedule regular cleanings every 6 months to remove plaque and make sure your child’s teeth are on the right track. We may suggest fluoride treatments and sealants to strengthen their teeth against cavity-causing bacteria during their visit.

It’s also important to build early at-home oral habits. Children should brush and floss their teeth twice a day. Before age 6, parents may help their child to make sure they reach every nook and cranny. Avoid sugary soft drinks and juice that cause tooth decay, and opt for water or sugar-free alternatives instead.

Not every child needs braces. During routine visits, your dentist will take a close look at their teeth through digital x-rays and a visual exam. If there are signs of misalignment, orthodontic treatments may be recommended.

If there’s a need, our office provides comprehensive orthodontic care through traditional metal braces, Invisalign® clear aligners, and phase 1 early ortho intervention to create happy, straight smiles.

With the right equipment, x-rays are amazing tools to diagnose and treat tooth decay and disease. Pediatric x-rays provide gentle dosages to keep them safe. The diagnostic upsides through x-ray imaging can save a tooth from extraction and are essential to a healthy mouth.

Frenectomies are used to relieve tongue-tie and lip-tie. These are caused by extra connective tissue that restricts movement of the tongue and upper lip. They aren’t necessary for every child, but an early visit to the dentist as an infant will help decide if one is recommended. A frenectomy can help with speech, nursing, and prevent orthodontic and gum issues in the future.
